Whyalla. 24/03/14

24/03/14 Arrived in Wyhalla at midday after a stop over in Port Augusta for fuel and a few groceries and had a look around the maritime museum then headed into the caravan park as no free camping in town and booked 5 nights for $100 which is far better than $39 per night as initially told. Bloody hell it is windy here, seriously it would blow a dog of the chain and it is just about impossible to open the motorhome door to get in or out and it's is really cold. As we are camped right on the beach there is always something going on with the many massive ships moored waiting to go into the steelworks and as well as the locals wading into the tide and using a steel garden rakes to catch sand crabs. We will walk into town tomorrow and watch a movie and take someone out for lunch as it's her birthday. I am unsure of her age but it's somewhere between 62-64 so I will have to make a guess.
Whyalla population 22500 and an average rainfall of 271 mm per annum. Whyalla is Located in the spencer gulf with port Lincoln further west and port Pirie on the other side ( south) of the gulf. Some interesting information we found out other than Australia's largest snapper are caught just out here apparently is about the cuttlefish, did you know that cuttlefish are colour blind, they have "w" shaped pupils which are thought to allow them to see both behind and in front at the same time. Cuttlefish have blue blood ( like prince Philip) 3 hearts, 8 arms and 2 feeding tentacles so there you go and that endith the lesson.
Well I had a interesting Birthday at Whyalla decided that I would like to the movies then have lunch out found out from one of the locals where shops where, it's only 2ks down the road, found out the hard way, don't listen to the locals, 2 and half hours later found the shops, no movies showing that day, also could not find the pub, to which was the best one to eat at, ended up eating at another pub. We would not recommend no more said. I asked a tradmens working at the shopping centre where the other pub was, his reply just down the road saver were caught this morning with the same reply we decided to catch a cab,20 minutes later by taxi we found the pub had a drink then walked back to the camp, only 2 ks from where we where camping. Very interesting day. We had some great oyster Killpatrick that night. Our last night in Wayalla.till our next post goodnight
